Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed. – Francis Bacon
We are device architects developing new computational primitives for the physical Edge. We create, validate, and license post–von Neumann architectures that replace sequential Boolean logic with continuous thermodynamic relaxation—unlocking orders-of-magnitude gains in energy efficiency and latency on standard 28–45 nm CMOS without reliance on leading-edge foundry monopolies.
Apostate Tech, Inc. is a Delaware C-corp, founded in May 2026. Operating an IP-licensing model, we partner with international R&D pilot lines and commercial OEMs to validate application-specific prototypes, and will open to seed investment and strategic JDA partnerships in Q1 2027. Early inquiries and white-paper access requests may be directed below.
Ryan's background bridges theoretical physics (MS, Cornell) and continuum mechanics and materials science (PhD, UT Austin) with 16 years of commercial advanced-node and More–than–Moore pathfinding, including yield modeling, bio-MEMS, design-rule ownership, Chip-Package Interaction (CPI), and both process and materials discovery.
Rather than approach non-von Neumann computing as a purely theoretical exercise, the Apostate architecture synthesizes five physical domains where Ryan already holds 8 related semiconductor patents:
Having spent nearly two decades inside Tier-1 foundry Joint Development Alliances (JDAs) and unit-process accelerators resolving the physical failure modes of advanced nodes, he founded Apostate Tech to launch a technological future that heeds nature's precedents.
Today's semiconductor industry faces an existential bottleneck driven by power, memory, and centralization. While hyperscalers propose nuclear power solutions to feed centralized AI data centers, intelligent systems at the physical Edge—from industrial automation to autonomous sensing—remain starved for power and tethered to fragile communication links. Adding more energy or shrinking transistors below 2 nm only treats the symptom. At Apostate Tech, we are addressing the root cause: the von Neumann architecture and Boolean algebra.
For decades, we pressed the Boolean approximation to its physical limit and hit a power and memory wall. The foundational building blocks of modern chips—NAND and NOT devices—are inherently inefficient. Because NAND is fundamentally a four-to-two mapping (which is not invertible), traditional processors cannot perform basic arithmetic without sequentially expanding and contracting physical states.
Every time a traditional chip calculates a simple addition, it physically expands its active node count, contracts it, and orphans leftover nodes. This sequential, non-adiabatic re-definition of boundary conditions creates immense, unavoidable heat.
Nature does not compute this way. If an eyelash senses a fly, your eyelid blinks. You see an object in the road and instinctively turn the wheel. These actions do not require an analog-to-digital conversion, numeric computation, and digital-to-analog output. They are dynamic, physical reactions.
What if we approached computer processing the same way? What if we stopped trying to force arbitrary numeric precision through billions of tiny, heat-generating gates, and instead approached computation through continuous pattern recognition?
The Fenna-Matthews-Olson Complex (a biological structure in green sulfur bacteria) achieves near-unity energy efficiency by utilizing physical geometry and thermodynamics to deposit energy exactly where it is needed. Inspired by these natural dynamics, Apostate Tech is building a new architectural solution leveraging traditional CMOS processes at 28 - 45 nm scale.
Apostate Tech has developed a proprietary device structure that operates with fixed dimensionality, allowing for the continuous occupation of solution space. Instead of using electricity to force discrete 1s and 0s through sequential logic gates, our system uses thermodynamic energy to propagate signals.
Instead of cascading gate logic, our device relies on collective field relaxation. By engineering specific boundary conditions within a continuous system, we can excite the exact solution latent to the system. The device measures the resulting spatiotemporal pattern as a readout, performing highly complex phase-space computation without explicit numeric estimation.
To solve the compute power and centralization crisis, we must change how we compute at the foundational level of physics. We compute dynamically. Apostate Tech is charting a new path for the next era of technological scaling.
